Xavier Naidoo, (born October 2, 1971) also known by the stage and recording name Kobra, is a German R&B and contemporary soul, singer-songwriter, and actor hailing from Mannheim, Baden-Wüttemberg, Germany.

Naidoo’s early musical excursions consisted of performing in school glee clubs, low-budget musicals and church choirs during his adolescent and teenage years. His professional career started singing jingles for advertising companies before moving to the U.S. and releasing his debut album “Seeing is Believing” in 1994. The record was an English-language album and released under the singer’s Kobra moniker. Three year’s later Naidoo returned Germany to release the single “Freisein” with the singer Sabrina Setlur, and the subsequent successful “20,000 Meilen” and “Führ Mich and Licht”.

The popularity of these singles paved the way for his first German-language album “Nicht von dieser Welt” in 1998 issued by 3P. The album topped the German charts, sold over a million copies and stayed in the Top 20 for over a year. Soon after arrived the LP “Live” hit the shelves and Naidoo contributed to the 14-member music collective Söhne Mannheims’s album “Zion” in 2000. Naidoo’s subsequent album, the two-disc “Zwischenspiel/Alles für den Herm” once again topped the charts in 2002, aided by the singles “Wo Willst Du Hin?, “Bevor Du Gehst”, and “Abschied Nehmen”.

The singer-songwriter went on to collaborate with the Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA in 2003 producing the No. 1 hit single “Ich Kenne Nichts (Das So Schön Ist Wie Du)” in 2003. Like the two albums before it, Naidoo’s fourth “Telegramm für X”, released in 2005, once again found the top of the German album charts and earned the singer his first No. 1 single with the song “Danke” in 2006. He has subsequently released the three-disc platinum album “Alles Kann Besser Werden” in 2009, collaborated with rapper Kool Savas on the No. 1 record “Gespaltene Persönlichkeit” in 2012, and in 2013 released the pair of albums “Bei Meiner Seele” and the dubstep influenced “Mordsmusik”.
