UFO, formed in London, UK in 1969 were on the frontline of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. They have released twenty studio albums since 1970 and have been cited as an influence by Metallica, Pearl Jam, Megadeth and Iron Maiden.

UFO hit their stride when they drafted in eighteen-year-old Michael Schenker to be their lead guitarist in 1973. They released three albums before their huge breakthrough in 1977 with the album “Lights Out”, which made it to number 23 in the Billboard 200 Chart and number 54 in the UK being certified Gold. It featured the singles “Too Hot to Handle” and “Alone Again Or”. The album has since been listed in the Kerrang! Magazine, as number 28 of the ‘100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time’. Their following album, “Obsession” released in June 1978, earned similar success, but was unfortunately the last album that would feature Michael Schenker. It made it to number 41 in the Billboard 200, and number 26 in the UK.

UFO’s eighth album, released in January 1980 entitled “No Place to Run” pushed the band up the chart further, earning them their highest charting album in the UK making it to the number 11 spot, being certified Silver. Unfortunately, they weren’t maintaining the same chart success in the US. February 1982 saw the band release their tenth studio album entitled “Mechanix”, which became UFO’s highest charting album in the UK making it to number 8. Following “Mechanix”, UFO achieved two more charting albums above the number 80 mark, with “Making Contact” and “Misdemeanor” making it to number 32 and number 74 in the UK Albums Chart. Their following album to chart was “The Visitor” in 2009 making it to number 99, and “Seven Deadly” released on February 27th 2012, which marked UFO’s 20th studio album release.
