Murs is the stage name of American rapper Nick Carter. Carter, or Murs, is originally from LA in California, USA.

Murs created his name as an acronym for several expressions, including “Making the Universe Recognize and Submit” or “Making Underground Raw Shit”. Born on March 16 1978, Murs was musical from a very young age. Whilst still in high school, Murs formed a band with several of his classmates. It was not long until he began working on solo projects and in 1997 his solo debut album was released, titled ‘F’Real’. He has steadily released albums since, releasing ‘The End of the Beginning’ in 2003 and ‘Murs 3:16: The 9th Edition’ in 2004. After a fourth album, Murs was signed to Warner Bros in 2006 and more recently, of 2014, he has been signed to record label Strange Music.

Some of Murs’ singles include ‘God’s work’and ‘Risky Business/ Brotherly Love’ from his 2003 album and ‘Better than the Best’ in 2007. Murs also collaborated with Snoop Dog for the single ‘Time is Now’ in 2008 which featured on his album ‘Murs for President’. His most popular hits to date, however, include the tracks ‘Everything’, ‘Whatuptho’, ‘LA’ and ‘Murs Day’.

Similar artists that have often been compared to Murs in terms of music style and lyrics include Little Brother, 9th Wonder, Living Legends and Fashawn.
