Mest (formed in 1995) is an American pop punk four-piece founded by neighbouring cousins Tony and Matt Lovato, hailing from Blue Island, Illinois, U.S.

Borrowing instruments Tony Lovato’s father’s collection, cousins Matt and Tony Lovato began playing music together at the age of seven. By the time the pair reached high school Tony had become a proficient guitarist and singer and Matt, a talented bassist. The two looked for ways to expand their sound and subsequently invited second guitarist Jeremiah Rangel and drummer Nick Gigler to their lineup. Following a number of performances in local punk bars, Mest self-released their debut album “Mo’ Money, Mo’ 40z” in July 1998. Whilst not causing a huge stir, the album led Mest to sign with Maverick Records who issued the official debut album “Wasting Time” in July 2000. Produced by Goldfinger’s John Fieldman, the record introduced Mest’s playful approach to pop punk, and spawned the singles “What’s the Dillio?” and “Drawing Board”.

The band’s sophomore album “Destination Unknown” arrived in October 2001, peaking at No. 12 on the Heatseekers Chart. Led by the single “Cadillac”, the record was supported by extensive touring included a date opening for Goldfinger in Las Vegas, Nevada. The live concert DVD “The Show Must Go Off!” was released by the band in January 2003, the same year Mest issued their self-titled, third studio album. Peaking at No. 64 on the Billboard 200, “Mest” represented the band’s biggest success to date aided by the single “Jaded” featuring fellow pop-punker Benji Madden.

In 2005 drummer Gigler underwent surgery having developed carpal tunnel syndrome, after which Mest issued their fourth full-length “Photographs” in October 2005. Spawning the singles “Kiss Me, Kill Me” and “Take me Away (Cried Out to Heaven)”, the album was once again produced by John Fieldmann and proved to be the last release by Maverick Records. Beginning in 2006 the band announced they would cease recording and performing together, however a reformed version of Mest toured on a modest one-month tour in 2008. With new members Richie Gonzales and Mike Longworth, Mest embarked on a European tour, followed by a U.S. tour alongside Escape the Fate and Attack Attack. The band subsequently issued the full-length album “Not What You Expected” in September 2013, after which Mest made appearances at the year’s Warped Tour.
