Lykke Li

With her unique blend of indie pop and electronic music, Swedish songstress Lykke Li has never had a problem standing out.

Born in 1986, she was the daughter of a photographer mother and musical father. As a child, she and her family moved around a lot, first moving from the town of Ystad to Stockholm before moving between Nepal, Morocco, India and spending 5 years atop a mountain in Portugal.

After spending 3 months in New York as a 19-year-old, she eventually returned 2 years later to begin work on her debut album. Her first album ‘Youth Novels’ was released in January 2008, primarily in the Nordic regions before gaining a wider release months later. It received mass critical acclaim for its unique pop sentiments and found itself on many best of year lists.

Her live show began to gain notoriety around this time for its unique set up and afforded her the chance to perform on shows like Jools Holland in the UK and Conan O’Brien in the US. As her popularity continued to increase with the release of her subsequent albums ‘Wounded Rhymes’ in 2011 and ‘I Never Learn’ in 2014, she continued to play on high profile shows like Jay Leno and David Letterman as well as festival slots at the likes of Latitude and Coachella.

Her profile was also boosted by a diverse range of collaborations, appearing on the albums of artists like U2 and David Lynch and working with artists like ASAP Rocky. As long as Lykke Li maintains her unique sound and presence, her profile and popularity will only continue to grow.
