British R&B trio, Loose Ends, became one of the biggest acts in the urban dance scene, finding a string of hits throughout the 1980s, having formed at the start of the decade in London, UK.

Formed of Carl McIntosh (vocals, guitar), Jane Eugene (vocals) and Steve Nichol (keyboards), the band signed to Virgin Records in 1981, having impressed with their live performances. Their debut record, “A Little Spice,” was crafted by Chris and Eddie Amoo, formerly of The Real Thing. The album was released in 1984, gaining a US release after signing with MCA.

It was with their second album that Loose Ends were to find chart success, with 1985’s “So Where Are You?” boasting two hit singles. “Hangin’ On a String” peaked at number 13 in the UK, as well as topping the US R&B charts, becoming the first British band to do so. “Magic Touch” followed that same year, breaking into the Top 20.

Another single reached the top of the US R&B charts the following year, with “Slow Down,” from the album, “Zagora.” which also was received well. It was another two years that further chart success would arrive for Loose Ends, finding a hit with 1988’s “Watching You,” which reached the number two spot, helping to bolster sales of their fourth album, “The Real Chuckeeboo.” Eugene and Nichol then decided to leave the band, after being at odds with McIntosh over the group’s direction. WIth replacements brought in (Linda Carriere and Sunay Suleyman), Loose Ends released their final album, “Look How Long” in 1990.

No longer at the peak of the band’s popularity, they decided to disband after their fifth record. However, in 1998, they reunited to appear on the Pete Rock single, “Take Your Time,” which became a minor hit. The band have since reunited at various times, appearing at large music festivals, including 2011’s Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, US. Carl McIntosh also takes the ‘Loose Ends Experience’ on tour, with the sound system often being joined by of DJ Chris ‘Fatboy’ Harvey and UK soul singer, Kyra Simone.
