KOAN Sound is a production duo hailing from Bristol, the United Kingdom who formed in 2008. Since debuting, they have released seven extended plays and become one of the most exciting electronica acts to come from the U.K in a very long time.

Formed by Jim Bastow and Will Weeks in 2008 after their main projects came to a crashing halt, KOAN Sound debuted by creating a combative, almost violent take on dubstep barely a year after Skrillex had left From First To Last. As informed by bands like Rage Against The Machine and Incubus as they were by The Prodigy and Noisia, the duo first began making a name for themselves with the release of their single “Akira” in 2011, which was saw the band hailed as one of the slot exciting names in dubstep’s UK scene. This, of course, meant that after that point, the duo started to branch away from the sound with their subsequent work, but they still managed to sign to Skrillex’s record label OWSLA in 2011 for the release of the “Funk Blaster EP”, their third record of its kind.

Since then, their records have been championed by a veritable who’s who of British and American electronica, with their records being spun by everyone from Annie Mac and Benga, to MistaJam and Skream. They even flirted with the mainstream as well when a track of theirs was used in an advert for Nick Grimshaw’s Radio 1 Breakfast Show in 2012. They’ve remixed for giants of all genre’s as well, with Kasabian and Ed Sheeran requesting their services for the tracks “Days Are Forgotten” and “The A-Team” respectively. To this day, they remain one of the most respected names in British electronica and come highly recommended.
